At Doulas of Marquette, we absolutely love working alongside partners during a birth. We know that each partner has different desires for the role they will play during labor, birth, and the postpartum period. Some want to be the coach, some want to be a teammate, and others a witness. Whatever role your partner sees themselves in, we will help them to feel completely confident and equipped to support you.
Our Doulas have each been through birth and understand not only professionally but personally how important a partner’s presence is during labor, birth, and the postpartum time. We have seen how their confidence in a mother, their words, and their touch, can make such a difference. As we’ve worked alongside many different couples, we’ve found that birth truly does have the capacity to bring transformation and an intimacy between partners that has never existed before that point.
Practically we bring the knowledge of birth, so your partner doesn’t have to remember all the details from your childbirth class, or if you chose to skip it we can help give the play-by-play so you both feel reassured and supported. We have been called “the manual” and “the guide” by many partners that we have worked with. With us there it gives your partner the space to be completely focused on loving and caring for you, while leaving the rest to us.
Some partners who have been hesitant to hire a doula, whether for fear of us taking their place, the financial investment, or not fully understanding what a doula does, have been pleasantly surprised at our family centered approach that completely includes them in the role they would like to be in. The fact that we have payment plan options, and that we clearly lay out our role for them which includes talking about how the evidence is in favor of having a doula.
Yes, a doula can increase the satisfaction that a couple feels about their birth no matter how the birth goes.
The families we have been fortunate to work with have found value in not ONLY making sure that there is a healthy mom/healthy baby but ALSO a healthy mind/healthy bond connection between mom/baby and even mom/themselves. They see how our doulas really consider every part of the whole family (body, mind, emotions, spirit) throughout the process, and how the value of our support is far beyond any set monetary value.
“In the light of two prior tough pregnancies, we were looking for the professional support of a doula to give us more peace of mind. Our Doula gave us such a sense of strength. She helped us put together an effective birth plan, and helped equip me with tools to help my wife through labor. If I needed a break, she was there; she was always there. She had great ideas for helping labor progress. We made an excellent team!”
